Best Management Practices Guide (BMP)

Best Management Practices or BMPs are devices used to reduce pollution in stormwater runoff, thereby protecting area waterways.  These practices are often permanent facilities designed to handle stormwater runoff for a specific area.  As a property owner or Homeowners Association, you may be responsible for maintenance of a BMP.

Types of BMPs in Hampton Roads are:

  • Infiltration Trenches / Basins
  • Detention Basins / Ponds
  • Retention Basins / Ponds
  • Grassed Swales
  • Filter Strips and Buffers

HR STORM Has developed a BMP Guide that explains the need, the types and the maintenance of BMPs.  For your convenience, it has been broken down into manageable PDF sections.
